Jainism


Jainism is one of the oldest religion in the world. It believes in the great acetic leaders (Digambar) who through their tough penance (taap) and meditation (dhyan) attained the greatest goal of mankind called Moksha (liberation). They are called Tirthankar.


Jainism follows the teaching of the twenty four Tirthankars, the first being Sri Rushabhdev and the last Sri Mahavira. Jainism believes, there are eight karmic attachment which should be renounced by practicing the eight fold types of karmic pooja using different worldly materials (Dhravya) like, Jaal, chandan, pushpa, dhup, deep, Akshat, Nived and Phaal. This pooja in short is named as Ashtaprakari pooja. Sanantra Pooja is a longer version that describes the birth celebrations of a Tirthankar. In the end there is Aarti and shanti kalash.


In conclusion, Sanatra pooja is a devotional service in co-operated with music and dance to the respected Tirthankars called Arihantas. The devotional songs sang are called Stavans.
