Mandap ceremony means initiating ourself from celibacy stage to a householder stage. According to Hindu culture a pre-wedding would start with I small ritual to mark the foundation of the wedding ceremony.

This ceremony starts with worship to Lord Ganesh (the son of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati). Lord Ganesh dispels darkness and removes obstacles in our life, giving us knowledge, joy and success.

Later mother earth is worshiped in the form or a earthly pot. It symbolises asking permission from Mother Earth to erect and start a new home. In this event the bride or the bridegroom would be helped by her or her brothers to plant a bamboo stem into the pot. They would also give a promise to help, guide and protect the sister throughout their life.

The planting of the tree symbolises the start of a new family life as a house holder. Then the family ladies would bless the bride or the bridegroom.
